The Tools That Make the Difference
These are my favorite tools, products, and supplies—the ones I actually use and recommend to every student and client. I’ve tried a lot of pens over the years (a lot!), and these are the ones that keep earning their spot in my kit.
Shop My Favorite Pens
These are my all time favorite pens! I have a lot of them and are the ones I pick up whenever I have a project. From bible journaling to a little afternoon lettering, the Fude pens are my go-to! They are the perfect pens to go with my lettering worksheet set.
These are some of the most versatile pens on the market! They are great for hand lettering and blending, as well as some mixed media tricks and tips. The Dual Brush pen is great for letterers with very large hand writing. The Dual Brush pen is also available in a smaller pack (10) and individually.
I love these pens because they are a medium width – wider than the Fude pens, but not quite as wide as the dual brush. They do require a lot of pen pressure to get a wide downstroke. They come in a 10 pack as well and can be blended with the Tombow Dual Brush color blender.
These pens write just like the Tombow Fude Soft nib pen! They are available in twelve colors and are very durable on a variety of writing surfaces. The silver and gold have a bit of sparkle to the ink as well.
These pens are a great medium sized brush pen! They are juicy and come in so many awesome colors. Check out my full review in a blog post right here!
This is my favorite white pen. These are not brush pens, just a regular gel pen. I think I have tried all the white pens, but these are my favorite because they never skip, are consistent in width and ink flow, and have a bright white color.
Shop The Paper I Love
This is probably my most used paper in my lettering stash! Tracing paper is awesome for skills and drills, without tearing up your pen nibs. High quality tracing paper can also be used as a substitute for vellum. Check my videos for all my tips and tricks with tracing paper!
Smooth paper is the key to a long lasting pen! This HP LaserJet paper is the smoothest and I keep it for practicing. It is very gentle on your paper nibs and absorbs colored ink so you have fewer smudges. I do a lot of my sketches and final drafts on white paper on this HP paper.
This is another one of my favorites! The Rhodia pad is suuuuper smooth and easy to write on. The Rhodia pad also comes as a dot pad or lined pad which is great for keeping everything straight. It is a little bit thinner than the HP and is great for tracing! I grab this regularly on my way out the door to letter on the go!
Need a piece of heavy and smooth cardstock? This stuff is amazing! It is very smooth and pens glide right over it. I use it regularly to make name tents for my in-person classes. It comes in a pack of 50 and is very reasonably priced.
I keep a large stash of spiral notebooks in my office. I love pencil sketching first drafts in these notebooks – the lines help me keep from moving my lines up and down. Plus, they are super cheap (always a win)! I usually stock up at back to school time when these spirals go to 10 cents in August.
I just got one of these bad boys this Fall and I love lettering in it! It is the perfect size to ride in my purse and do a little bit of lettering here and there. The dots are great for making sure that your lines are straight and the pages are really smooth. Plus, the little band keeps it from flopping open and getting all kinds of purse junk stuck on my paper!

These are my favorite erasers! I love that they are durable and erase cleanly without leaving any dark spots or muddying the pages with eraser smudge. The Tombow Mono Eraser lasts a long time and work so smoothly!

This eraser is truly magical! It takes off ink smudges and colored pencil – WHAT! The Sand Eraser works by taking off the top layer of paper and the accompanying color. So, that means it works best on thicker paper, like a cardstock or drawing paper. It is one of my most useful tools!

This is another fabulous Tombow Eraser! It erases smoothly, like the polymer white erasers, but instead of leaving little bits everywhere – all the pieces of “eraser trash” stick together and come off as a larger clump. This is great for keeping your workspace neat and having fewer pieces to wipe off your canvas. I love using these for my canvases – it is neater to clean up!
